Governor Removal Medium

The stock governor caps this engine at roughly 3,600 RPM. Removing it is well documented in the mini-bike community, but the 79cc has no oil pump — the rod bearing relies on splash/dipper lubrication. Sustained high RPM without stiffer valve springs and disciplined throttle habits is a documented way to damage the bearing, not just the flywheel.

Carburetor Upgrade Medium

The tiny stock carb becomes the bottleneck once you've re-jetted, filtered, and freed up the exhaust. The common step-up on this platform is a 19mm slide-style carb with a matching intake manifold — budget for a throttle-linkage kit too, since the stock cable geometry won't match a different carb body.

Performance Exhaust Easy

The stock muffler is built for noise compliance, not flow. A header or performance muffler reduces backpressure and helps the engine breathe out as well as in — pair it with a re-jet, since a freer-flowing exhaust will run lean on the stock jet.

Which One Should You Build?
If you're building a full-size go-kart or want deep aftermarket support, start with the 212 — it's the platform the whole clone-racing scene is built around. If you're doing a mini bike, kid kart, or a light utility swap and don't need big horsepower, the 79cc is lighter and cheaper — just respect its RPM ceiling and splash-oiled bottom end.

Safety First
This engine has no oil pump — the rod bearing relies on splash/dipper lubrication. Never run sustained high RPM after a governor removal without stiffer valve springs and a billet flywheel installed first, and avoid long stretches of wide-open throttle. Builders in the mini-bike community have documented bearing damage from exactly this. Short bursts are safer than sustained high-RPM cruising on this platform.
