Top speed is calculated using engine RPM, tire diameter in inches, and overall gear ratio. The formula is: Speed (mph) = (RPM x Tire Diameter) / (Gear Ratio x 336). Larger tires and lower gear ratios increase top speed. Higher RPM engines will also push more speed for the same setup.
Use the actual tire diameter, not the rim size. Measure the tire from ground to top while it is inflated and under load if possible. Your gear ratio should be the final drive ratio — rear teeth divided by front teeth (or use our Gear Ratio Calculator first).
