What Is a Clutch?

A centrifugal clutch engages as engine RPM increases. At low RPM, it slips. Once RPM rises, the shoes expand, lock against the drum, and transfer power directly to the drivetrain.

What Is a Torque Converter?

A torque converter uses a variable pulley system (drive and driven pulleys connected by a belt) to automatically adjust the gear ratio. This gives more torque at low speeds and transitions to higher speed ratios as RPM increases.
