Calculate Displacement

What is Engine Displacement?

Engine displacement is the total volume swept by all pistons inside the cylinders during one full stroke from bottom dead center (BDC) to top dead center (TDC). It is measured in cubic centimeters (cc) or cubic inches (ci). Larger displacement generally means more air and fuel can be burned, producing more power.

How Displacement is Calculated

The formula is: Displacement = PI x (Bore / 2)^2 x Stroke x Cylinders. Bore is the diameter of the cylinder and stroke is the distance the piston travels. Both must be in the same unit — this calculator handles mm and inches automatically.

People Also Ask

How many cc is a 212cc engine in cubic inches?

212cc is approximately 12.94 cubic inches. Use this calculator to convert any cc value by entering bore and stroke, or reference: 1 cc = 0.061 cu in.

Does more displacement always mean more power?

Generally yes, but power also depends on compression ratio, camshaft profile, carburetor size, and tuning. A well-tuned smaller engine can outperform a stock larger one.

What is bore and stroke?

Bore is the diameter of the engine cylinder. Stroke is the distance the piston travels from top to bottom. A square engine has equal bore and stroke. Longer strokes favor torque; wider bores favor high-RPM power.

How do I find bore and stroke for my engine?

Check the engine manufacturer's spec sheet or service manual. For Predator 212: bore is 70mm, stroke is 55mm. For Predator 301: bore is 76mm, stroke is 66mm.
